1851 'Not far in from the pavilion a triumphal arch had been constructed a from a design by Messrs. Melling and Son, of Rainhill Ironworks' - On the visit of Queen Victoria.
1857 Patent. '957. And Thomas Melling, of the Rainhill Iron Works, near Prescot, in the county of Lancaster, Engineer, has given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in taps or valves, and in apparatus to prevent the overflowing of and letting off the water from baths.'
