"REGINALD EMERSON ANTHONY was connected with the motor car industry for the greater part of his career, and was a director of the Bromley Motor Works (Kent) Ltd., at the time of his decease on 8th July 1939.
He was born at Neath in 1879, and attended St. John's School, East Dulwich, and Alleyn's College, Dulwich, afterwards spending the period 1895-7 at the Croydon Polytechnic, where he studied engineering. At the same time he entered the works of Messrs. Botone and Son, Wallington, Surrey, as an apprentice. On leaving this firm he joined Mr. H. T. Crewe, M.I.Mech.E., with whom he remained until 1906, subsequently becoming manager of his works.
In this year he founded his own company, the Bromley Motor Works, and entered the automobile industry whilst it was still comparatively undeveloped. His firm was engaged on government work during the War, but on return to normal conditions he resumed his connection with the motor trade and was closely associated with the designs and trials of Sir Malcolm Campbell's early Bluebird racing car. He was also interested in the "Alvis" car when it first appeared in 1921. Latterly he had devoted his time chiefly to the sales side of the business. Mr. Anthony was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1906."
