RICHARD DAY died at Bridlington on August 16, 1900. He was formerly a woollen manufacturer in Dewsbury, and retired from business some twenty years before his death. About that time he became largely interested in collieries, and was subsequently appointed director of the Soothill Wood Colliery Company, Limited, Batley, and chairman of the White Lea Colliery Company, Limited, Birstall, chairman of the Mablethorpe Gas Company, and was interested in ironworks and many other companies in various branches of industry.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1890, and regularly attended the meetings, leaving taken part in those in France, America, Belgium, Spain, and Sweden.
