c.1849 in Dublin when his daughter Janet was born

1861 Robert Irvine 37, superintendent of West Hartlepool Harbour Machinery Co, lived in Hartlepool with Agnes Irvine 38, David Irvine 3, Janet Irvine 13, Wilmaund Irvine 5, and his sister Margaret Irvine 30[2]

1871 Robert Irvine 47, iron ship builder, lived in Hartlepool with Agnes Irvine 49, Robert Irvine 25, Janet Irvine 22[3]

...born in Port Glasgow and he was in his early life connected with the British and Irish Navigation Co...In 1856 he undertook the superintendency of the West Hartlepool Steam Navigation Company. Upon the amalgamation of the West Hartlepool Harbour and Railway Company with the North Eastern Railway Company Mr. Irvine leased the latter company's harbour dockyard and founded the shipbuilding firm of Messrs. R. Irvine and Co. This business he handed over to his sons in 1887 and a few years ago it was acquired by the present Irvine's Shipbuilding and Dry Docks Co...
