Robert Pople (c1836-1909) of Pople's New London Hotel

Born at Bridgwater the son of John Pople, an Innkeeper.

1859 Married at Watchet to Sarah Ann Blacker

1861 Living at the Eastern Commercial Hotel, Bridgwater: Robert Pople (age 25 born Bridgwater), Hotel Keeper. With his wife Sarah A. and one daughter.[1]

1871 Living at the London Inn, Northernhay Place, Exeter: Robert Pople (age 35 born Bridgwater), Hotel Proprietor employing 23 men, 1 boy and 5 women. With his wife Sarah and two daughters.[2]

1881 Living at the London Hotel, Northernhay Place, Exeter: Robert Pople (age 45 born Bridgwater), Hotel Keeper and Farmer. With his wife Sarah and one daughter.[3]

1891 Living at the New London Hotel, Northernhay Place, Exeter: Robert Pople (age 55 born Bridgwater), Hotel Proprietor. With his wife Sarah, two daughters and two grandsons.[4]

1895/96 Mayor of Exeter.[5]

1901 Living at Pople's Hotel, Northernhay Place, Exeter: Robert Pople (age 65 born Bridgwater), Proprietor of Hotel. With his wife Sarah, two daughters and two grandsons.[6]

1907 Death of his wife Sarah Ann age 70.[7]

1909 February. Died. Came to Exeter 45 years ago and for four years was at the Half Moon Hotel and then took over the New London Hotel. Three times Mayor of the city. (Long detailed obituary).[8]
