Robert Stephenson (1788-1837)
1788 Born on 10th March the son of Robert 'Old Bob' Stephenson and his wife Mabel Carr, one of 6 children and the brother of George Stephenson.
1815 Married Ann Smith (his brother George's housekeeper) (or 1808 married Ann Snaith)
1819 Birth of a son, George Robert Stephenson.
1825-8 Employed under Robert Daglish on the construction of the Bolton and Leigh Railway. At about the same time he was employed on the construction ofthe 3ft 6in gauge Nantlle Railway.
At the opening of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway he drove the locomotive North Star.
Early 1830s: Appointed Chief Engineer of the Pendleton Collieries.
1833 Marriage of his daughter. 'On Thursday, the 31st ult. at Eccles Church, Patterson, the youngest son of the late Mr. John Kirton, of Wallsend, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, to Eleanor, second daughter of Mr. Robert Stephenson, civil engineer, Pendleton.'[1]
1837 March 15th. Died. 'On the 15th ult. at Pendleton, near Manchester, aged 49, Mr Robert Stephenson, civil engineer, late of Hatton, county of Durham' [2] [3] [4]
