Robert Vincent Boughton (1886- )

1922 Architect and Structural Engineer (Author as R. Vincent Boughton and R.V.B. ), 39, Thornton Avenue, Streatham Hill, S.W.2, b. 1886. Technically trained at West Norwood Technical Institute and L.C.C. School of Building, Brixton. Works include the design of general planning and structural details of more than 125 buildings and engineering works that cost over £2,000,000, including 45 of the garages of the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd.; the works of the Associated Equipment Co., Walthamstow; a few of the factory buildings at Royal Naval Cordite Factory, Wareham, Dorset; paravane factory buildings at Lyness, Orkneys, and much structural reinforced concrete and other work in various parts of United Kingdom. Five years as Assistant to Flew and Co., Contractors, West Kensington; si years as Chief Constructional Engineer to London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., Works Department; 3i years as Architect and Quantity Engineer to Topham, Jones and Railton, Ltd., Engineers and Public Works Contractors, on £1,200,000 contract for Royal Naval Cordite Factory, Wareham, Dorset, and also Assistant Works Manager to same firm in Orkneys; 2 years Estimator and Quantity Engineer to W. Alban Richards and Co., Ltd., Engineers and Contractors, 19, St. James's Street, S.W.i; lately Manager to Royce Cook Construction Co., Ltd.; now in private practice. Tech. Author, since 1908, to "Building World" (Cassell and Co.), and other publications; over 24o articles and 2,200 answers to tech. queries by subscribers on construction, eng., reinforced concrete and economics of construction; including "Economics of Factory Construction," " Economics of House Construction," "The Slide Rule Illustrated and Explained," "The Building Acts Illustrated and Explained," etc. Holder of 23 Certificates (Bd. of Education and City and Guilds of London Inst. ), including many Hons. Grade and Exhibitions in Sc. and Technology, etc.
