ROBERT WALTER OSTELL PROSSER was the grandson of Richard Prosser, an engineer who was associated with James Watt.
He was born, in London in 1877 and received his technical education at Durham College of Science.
In 1893 he became a pupil of Mr. W. H. Harfield, M.I.Mech.E., at the Blaydon Iron Works, Blaydon upon Tyne, serving until 1898, when he entered the drawing office.
He then became a draughtsman at the St. James's Gate brewery of Messrs. A. Guinness, Sons, and Company, Ltd., Dublin.
Subsequently he held various positions in engineering works in Canada and the United States, after which he went to Kenya, where he remained until the outbreak of the War. He returned to England and was given a commission in the R.N.V.R., and was engaged on work in connexion with paravanes.
After the War he went to France as a member of the Disposals Board; on the completion of this work he returned to England, and held various positions with engineering firms until his retirement in 1930.
His death occurred on 17th December 1935.
He was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1899, and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1903.
