. . . . After the completion of the Middle-Level works, Mr. Lunn, still with Thornbury and Harding, assisted in the reconstruction of the Black Sluice at Boston in Lincolnshire, and afterwards became a contractor on his own account within the limits of the Middle Level.
When the works of the Middle Level were so far completed that a resident engineer became necessary, the attention of the Board was directed to Mr. Lunn, whose merits as an able, practical, thorough man of business, had become widely known to those interested in the drainage of the Fens, and he was accordingly, in August, 1853, appointed Superintendent. . . .
