Rowland Lewis Goold was born in 1888 and after completing his engineering education at Birmingham Municipal Technical School was articled to a Chartered Patent Agent and Consultant, passing his final qualifying Examination as a Patent Agent in 1908.

He then commenced to act as a Patent Agent in Birmingham, and during the course of his career was retained by many of the leading firms in the automobile industry.

He died on 15th April, 1931, at the age of 42.

He was elected an Associate of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1919.
