S. Bellman and Sons, retailer of knitting wools and knitwear

1919 Drapery business established in Brighton by Mrs Sylvia Bellman

1934 S. Bellman and Sons was incorporated as a private company to take over the Brighton business

Post-WWII the company expanded considerably

1951 Acquired a chain of 20 wool shops

1959 Company became a public company with Sydney Bellman, son of the founder, as chairman and managing director. It operated 45 wool shops as well as stores and food markets.

1968 Coats Patons merged with Pasold and Sydney Bellman.
