"SAMUEL OGDEN was an Associate Member of the Institution for thirty-six years, having been elected in 1909. He served his apprenticeship from 1900 to 1904 with Messrs. Royce, Ltd., engineers, of Manchester, and received his technical education at the Manchester Technical School. He then became shift engineer at the power station of the Newcastle Electric Supply Co, and after holding this position for six years was appointed engineer surveyor to the Vulcan Boiler and General Insurance Company, Ltd.
During the war of 1914-18 he was attached to the Admiralty as assistant electrical overseer, and subsequently was engaged as power station engineer in the service of the War Department. After filling various technical positions he received an appointment in 1922 as engineer surveyor at the Bristol branch of the Eagle Star Insurance Company, Ltd., in whose employment he continued for over twenty years until his retirement in 1943. Mr. Ogden's death occurred at Colwyn Bay, on 5th June 1945, in his sixty-third year."
