1860 Patent. '2107. To Silas Covell Salisbury, of Essex-street, in the city of Westminster, Gentleman, and John Farmerley Dickson, of Nottingham, Sewing Machine Maker, for the invention of "improvements in sewing machines."'[1]

1861 Living at 5 Chepstow Terrace, Kensington: Silas Covell Salisbury (age 1861 born USA), a Civil Merchant and married. With two visitors and a servant.[2]

1861 Patent. '900. To Silas Covell Salisbury, of Essex-street, Strand, in the city of Westminster, Gentleman, and Josiah Turner, of Dalston, in the county of Middlesex, Mechanician, for the invention of "an improvement applicable to shuttles for the saving of cop waste.[3]

1861 Patent. '1045. And to Silas Covell Salisbury, of Essex street, Strand, in the city of Westminster, Gentleman, and James Starley, of Lewisham, in the county of Kent, Mechanic, for the invention of "an improved combination sewing machine."'[4]

1862. Patent. '1206. To Silas Covell Salisbury, of Coventry, in the county of Warwick, Engineer, for the invention of "improvements in the construction of sewing machines."'[5]

1862 Bankrupt. 'Silas Covell Salisbury, sued and committed as Silas Cyrus Salisbury, of No. 125, Fleet-street, City, Agent for and Patentee of Sewing Machines, jointly with James Starley, and also having lodgings at No. 23, Newland street, Kensington, both in Middlesex, previously of King street, Coventry, in the county of Warwick, Agent and Patentee as aforesaid, previously of No. 32. Essex-street, Strand, Middlesex, Agent and Patentee as aforesaid, having been adjudged bankrupt under a Petition for adjudication of Bankruptcy[6]

1865 Patent. '2527. And to Silas Covell Salisbury, Civil Engineer, of the City and State of New York, United States of America, for the invention of "improvements in producing and combining gases to be used for heating purposes, and in the construction of retorts for producing and combining such gases."'[7]

1867 Patent. '652. And to Silas Covell Salisbury, of the city and State of New 'York, United States of America, Civil Engineer, for the invention of "improvements in the manner of reducing and refining metallic ores, more particularly ores of iron, and in converting iron into steel, and in apparatus to be used in connection therewith."'[8]

1869 Patent. '3132. And to Silas Covell Salisbury, of the city of New York, and State of New York, in the United States of America, Civil Engineer, for the invention of " improvements in steam boilers and generators."'[9]
