1845 'DESTRUCTION OF THE WINDSOR FOUNDRY BY FIRE
A most alarming and destructive fire broke out on 15 Wednesday morning last, in the extensive iron foundry of Messrs. Smith and Willey, Smithdown-lane. The premises are known by the name of the "Edge-hill and Windsor Foundry," and extended from Smithdown-lane, at the corner of Falkner street, about 400 yards towards Parliament-street. The building was filled with valuable machinery of various kinds, such as lathes, engineers' benches, and tools, pattern moulds, and a quantity of iron, &c. in stock......'[1]

1845 'Dreadful fire in Liverpool ..... It was erected entirely of brick about 11 or 12 years ago ; and was one of the most extensive iron foundries in the town. ...'[2]
