1915 Richard Fairey founded the Fairey Aviation Co with the objective of manufacturing seaplanes.
1980 the remaining parts of the Fairey Holdings business were acquired by Pearson
1987 Subject of management buy-out
1988 First listed on the London Stock Exchange
In the 1990s the Company focused on electronics, selling its electrical insulator and hydraulic actuator businesses.
1997 it acquired Burnfield, a measuring instruments manufacturer
1999 it bought Servomex, an industrial instruments manufacturer.
2000 Fairey bought four instrumentation and process monitoring businesses of Spectris A.G. of Germany[1]
2001 changed its name to Spectris plc.
2002 it bought the Philips Analytical business.

- Test & Measurement - Brüel & Kjær Sound & Vibration, HBM
- In-line instrumentation - Beta LaserMike, Brüel & Kjær Vibro, BTG, Fusion UV Systems, NDC Infrared Engineering, Servomex
- Industrial Controls - Microscan Systems, Inc., Red Lion Controls
2015 Revenue £1.2bn. Divisions are Test and Measurement, In-line Instrumentation, Industrial Controls. Employs 2,360 persons worldwide.[2]
