STANLEY RALPH HOLLWAY was associated with the electrical side of mechanical engineering throughout his career. He received his practical training in the electricity department of Blackpool Corporation from 1910 to 1914 during which period he attended classes at Harris Technical Institute in Preston.
After gaining experience in the Liverpool Corporation's electricity supply department as assistant engineer he was attached to the anti-aircraft defences in London in 1916. Subsequently he served in France with the Royal Engineers and eventually was with the army of occupation in Germany.
On being demobilized in 1919 he was appointed shift engineer at Lister Drive generating station, Liverpool, and after holding this post for nine years was made clerk of the works during the construction of Clarence Dock generating station. On its completion he held in succession the positions of maintenance engineer and assistant station superintendent and, in 1936, he was appointed power station superintendent.
Mr. Hollway, whose death occurred on 19th November 1951 at the age of fifty-six, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1943.
