SYDNEY CHARLES BULLOCK, who died on the 27th November, 1947, was born on the 11th February, 1882. He received his early education at Prescot Grammar School, and his engineering education at the Gamble Institute, St. Helens, and at Liverpool University. In 1898 he went to [[British Insulated and Helsby Cables]] (now British Insulated Callender's Cables) as an apprentice, and he remained in the service of that company all his life. In 1905 he was appointed Assistant Superintendent of the Electrical Fittings Department, and two years later, at the age of 25, he became Superintendent. Under his control the department, which had been formed for the manufacture of the fittings associated with paper-insulated cables, expanded to cover a wide range of products, including resistance welders, foundry machinery and electric traction fittings.
