1871 Fire at premises. 'At a late hour on Saturday night a fire, which unfortunately was attended with a great loss of property, and by which a great number of work-people will be for some time thrown out of employment, happened in the extensive painting-brush manufactory of Messrs. Culmer and Sons, situate in the Hornsey-road, N., about five miles from London. The discovery was made by the constable on duty. Two brick buildings, one of two floors 30 feet long, and another of one floor 30 feet long, used as a manufactory, and the bleaching houses were burnt out and the roofs off. The front houses, used as offices and stores, were also very seriously damaged fire, water, &c. The origin of the fire is at present unknown. Fortunately the firm was insured in the Royal Fire Office.'[1]
1938 Partnership change. '...the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us, the undersigned Alban Russell Culmer, Harold Martin Culmer and Cyril Edward Cox carrying on business as Brush Manufacturers at Culmak Works, Vale Road, Finsbury Park, London, N.4, under the style or firm of T. W. CULMER & SONS has been dissolved by mutual consent as from the 31st day of December 1937. All debts due and owing to or by the said late firm will be respectively received and paid by the said Alban Russell Culmer and Harold Martin Culmer. The said business will be carried on in the future by the said Alban Russell Culmer and Harold Martin Culmer...'[2]
