Thomas William Kennard (1825-1893) of the Crumlin Viaduct Works

1835 August 29th. Born in Kent the son of Robert William Kennard. Brother to Henry Martyn Kennard

Designed a number of viaducts including the Crumlin Viaduct. He also designed an iron bridge for the Pampelona, Saragossa and Alsasua Railway, crossing the Ebro at Alfaro. 21 spans of 101 ft 10". Ironwork by Crumlin Viaduct Works.[1]

1893 September 10th. Died Sunbury aged 68. 'Wc regret to have to record the death, at the age 68, Mr. Thomas William Kennard, C.E., at his residence, Orchard House, Sunbury, on Sunday. Mr. Kennard had successfully accomplished a large number of engineering works all over the world. He was chiefly known in England as the founder of the Monmouthshire Crumlin Works, in 1854, and the designer and constructor of the Crumlin Viaduct. This wonderful work spans the Valley, connecting the counties of Monmouthshire and Glamorganshire. Its length is over 1658 ft.; and the height is 200 ft. It was opened to the public in 1857. Another great work of his was the Atlantic and Great Western Railway in the United States, of which was engineer-in-chief. He had also, in connection with the Marquis of Salamanca, designed and constructed large number of viaducts and bridges Spam and Italy. Mr. Kennard was the second son of Mr. R. W. Kennard.'[2]
