1988 Renamed TT Group plc
From 1988 to 1989 the company made a number of acquisitions
1988 Acquired Beatson, Clark and Co, glass container manufacturers of Rotherham[1]
1990 Entered the electronics industry with the takeover of Crystalate Holdings
Acquired Magnetic Materials Group, AB Electronic Products Group and BI Technologies, maker of resistors.
Acquired Dale Electric International and the AEI Group, the Wire and Cables Division of GEC.
2000 The company changed its name to TT electronics plc to more closely reflect the structure of the Group and the future direction in electronics without the packaging businesses which would be demerged as Send Group, including some engineering businesses and a number of acquisitions made in the period from 1987 to 1990[2]. The Group's major electronic activities became automotive sensors and systems, electronic components and electronic manufacturing services (ems). In addition the Group manufactured power systems, cables, wire and cable accessory products.[3]
New acquisitions since the change of name to TT electronics plc have been focused on electronics.
2002 Re-acquired Send Group[4]
2002 Acquired Optek Technology and added to the sensors and electronic systems division, bringing active components in the field of opto-electronics to the Group.
In 2004 TT electronics purchased Sensopad, a small technology business based in Cambridge which developed Autopad®, the automotive sensor technology.
2005 The purchase of Dage, an ems business based primarily in China, gave a platform for expansion in the region and created further low cost manufacturing capability for the ems division.
This was followed by the purchase of Apsco in 2006, completing the creation of a global footprint for our ems activities. Both Dage and Apsco have subsequently been renamed.
Operations are now based in the UK, USA, China and Malaysia and form what is now our Integrated Manufacturing Services division.
2007 TT Electronics purchased the rights to DAPS (digital angular position sensor), a new sensor technology and sold the AEI Cables operation based in the UK.
2008 the purchase of New Chapel Electronics, a UK based company which designs and manufactures specialist interconnection systems for the aerospace and defence markets, provided an opportunity to complement TT electronics' successful and growing interconnection systems business by providing improved sales channels to the high margin military and civil aerospace sectors.
This was followed by the acquisition of Semelab, which designs and produces specialised radio frequency and power semiconductors, optoelectronic components and power microcircuits and modules, thereby expanding the Group's electronic component activities.
2014 Roxspur Measurement and Control Ltd became part of TT Electronics Plc's Sensing and Control division.
