The Engineer has been published since 1856 and initially by the Office for Publication and Advertisements; 301 Strand, in the Parish of Mary-le-Strand [1] and 163 Strand; later at 33 Norfolk Street, Strand, WC.

Founded in January 1856 by Edward Charles Healey, an entrepreneur and engineering enthusiast with financial interests in the railways, the journal chronicles and explains the technical developments underway during Britain's Victorian and Edwardian age of innovation.

First issue was 4th January 1856. It was printed by Bernard Luxton at Taylor and Greenings, Graystoke Place, Fetter Lane, London. [2]
