1911 Obituary [1]

THOMAS DIXON SMYTHE, born on the 31st August, 1845, died on the 26th August, 1911.

He went to Chile in 1870, and entered the service of the Chilian State Railways. After acting as Resident Engineer on the location and construction of various lines, he was appointed Chief Engineer of the State Railways, and later, Inspector-General of Railways, Buildings and Public Works, holding this office until his death.

Mr. Smythe was elected a Member of The Institution on the 5th March, 1889.
