THOMAS FOSTER CLARK was for many years locomotive superintendent of the Metropolitan Railway.
He served his apprenticeship from 1877 to 1883 with Messrs. R. and W. Hawthorn of Newcastle-on-Tyne, and then became a draughtsman and later a foreman at Armstrong's Elswick works.
He first came to London to take up the position of foreman with Messrs. J. and H. Gwynne in their engineering and pump works at Hammersmith, and left them to become works manager and later locomotive superintendent of the Metropolitan Railway.
Upon the electrification of the line he returned to Messrs. Gwynne and spent a further ten years with them as works manager.
The position of chief engineer at the Hammersmith Distillery then became vacant, and Mr. Clark took up this appointment and still held the position until his death on 13th January 1931.
He had been a Member of the Institution since 1896.
