THOMAS JAMES BUSH was born in London in 1847.
Gaining his early practical experience with the Gas Light and Coke Company, he left their service in 1878 on being appointed engineer to the Australian (now the Sydney) Gas Company. He occupied this position for 36 years, retiring in July, 1914, and during his tenure of office the works and operations of the Company, at first comparatively small, were constantly extended until they became the largest in Australia. Mr. Bush was recognized as an authority on gas engineering, and was frequently consulted in such matters.
Coming to England to undergo an operation, he died in a nursing home in London on the 23rd September, 1914.
Mr. Bush was elected a Member of The Institution on the 6th December, 1898.
