THOMAS JOHN WATSON was born at Newcastle-on-Tyne on 23rd June 1856.
He served his apprenticeship from 1871 to 1877 in the engine works of Sir W. G. Armstrong and Co., Newcastle-on-Tyne, and was then engaged as draughtsman until 1890 in the same works.
In the latter year be became chief draughtsman in the works of Messrs. Cowans, Sheldon and Co., Carlisle, and remained with them until 1892, when he started for himself as consulting engineer in Newcastle-on-Tyne, and continued in practice until his death, which took place at Humshaugh, Northumberland, on 27th October 1916, at the age of sixty.
He was elected a Member of this Institution in 1897.
