1959 United Glass Bottle Manufacturers changed its name to United Glass Ltd[1]

1961 Employed 10,000 persons. Four subsidiaries. [2]

1962 Acquired Key Glassworks.

1964 Acquired Johnson Radley.

1966 Owens-Illinois of USA entered a technical assistance agreement with the company for which it acquired 16.6 percent of the equity of United Glass, with option to extend to 28.5 percent by 1976[3]

1966 United Glass acquired the British Heat Resisting Glass Co.

1970 Acquired Armstrong Cork Co.

1971 Owned 50:50 by Owens-Illinois and Distillers[4]

1972 made 1,888 million units with 6,445 employees.

1977 Made 1,890 million units with 6,508 employees. Have eight factories: Castleford (3 furnaces), Alloa (4 furnaces), Harlow (3 furnaces), Shettleton (2 furnaces), Pealey (3 furnaces), New Cross (1 furnace), Kinghorn (1 furnace) and Brimsdown (1 furnace). Had 27% (by volume) of the UK market for glass bottles. Strong in the wines, spirits and soft drinks market.

1977. United Glass is a holding company of which the glass container division, UG Glass Containers Limited, is the largest manufacturer of glass containers in the United Kingdom.
