"WALTER CYRIL COULSON, who was born in 1888, served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Ruston and Hornsby, Ltd., of Lincoln, from 1904 to 1910, and concurrently attended classes at the Lincoln Municipal Technical College, obtaining first-class diplomas. After gaining further experience with the same firm for the next three years as an erection engineer, he held several brief appointments including those of chief assistant to the works manager in the small engine department of Messrs. Petters, Ltd., Yeovil, and shop superintendent for Messrs. Clayton and Shuttleworth, Ltd., of Lincoln.
From 1919 to 1924 he acted as installation engineer to the Locomobile Engineering Co, Westminster, and during the next three years was plant superintendent for Messrs. Wilson and Company, of Barnsley. After two years as chief engineer to the Surrey Engineering Company, Ltd., London, he joined the staff of the Record Oil Company, Ltd., of Manchester, in 1930, as technical representative and held this position until his death, which occurred on 24th June 1948. Mr. Coulson was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1929."
