The Society was formed just after the first traction engine rally ever to be held in Cornwall, Saturday 3rd September 1955. It was held at Coombe Caravan Camp near Camborne. The nearest other rally of this size was then was at Andover, over 200 miles away.

Charles Gregory became the first President and Jack Trounson the first Chairman and Vernon Carveth as Secretary.

In 2012 the club had about 700 members.

The Society's annual rally, was known as the St. Agnes rally, is now held on the Stithians Showground.[1]
