c.1962 Westinghouse Brake and Signal Co built a fully automated factory in Manchester to manufacture the "Mecha-Matic" automatic transmission, designed by Hobbs Transmission Ltd of Leamington Spa[1]

The venture proved unsuccessful, the company lacking relevant expertise in transmissions

By 1965 the Manchester factory had been sold.
