A swing bridge was constructed in 1882. The ironwork was constructed by Andrew Handyside and Co, the machinery by Brinjes and Goodwin. The contractor was T. Whettam. Engineer Ewing Matheson/

Replaced by the present bascule bridge, which was officially opened on 4th July 1930. Engineer: H. W. Fitzsimons; General Contractor: Bolton and Lakin; Steelworks Contractor: Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Co.
