"WILFRED GIBSON MAW was associated with the firm of Messrs. R. A. Lister and Company, Ltd., Dursley, Gloucestershire, electrical general engineers, throughout his professional career and since 1936 had held the important position of works manager with the charge of about 3,000 employees.

His apprenticeship, which was interrupted by service in the Royal Flying Corps during the 1914-18 war, was served between 1915 and 1921 with the Rotherham Forge and Rolling Mills Company, Ltd., and during this period he attended classes at the Rotherham Technical College and Sheffield University. He began his long association with Messrs. Lister and Company with the post of jig and special machine tool designer and six years later was made assistant works manager. Subsequently his aptitude for design led to his becoming a member of the firm's Ricardo Engine Design Committee and during the latter part of his career he gave much of his attention to the design of internal-combustion engines, being the inventor and patentee of a two-stroke engine.

He also made two world tours in connexion with the technical side of the firm's products. Other positions he filled were those of member of the management committee and chairman of the foundry management committee. Mr. Maw, whose untimely death occurred on 29th May 1950 at the age of forty-nine, was elected a Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1941."
