WILFRID LEONARD BOX received his general education at the Mercers' School and his technical training at the City and Guilds of London Institute and King's College, London. He served his apprenticeship with various engineering firms in the London area and the Midlands, and also with the Waterloo and City Railway, with which he continued as assistant engineer for a brief period. After a short engagement as electrical engineer to the Cleethorpes and Grimsby Tramways Company he was appointed resident engineer to Messrs. Dick, Kerr and Company, Ltd., in 1902, and was engaged for the following eleven years on the erection of power plants for several new and important central stations.
He then began a connection with the Liverpool Overhead Railway which lasted for thirty years. He was first appointed assistant engineer, and fourteen years later became engineer. Since 1933 he had taken over the additional duties of manager. Mr. Box, whose death occurred a few months after his retirement at Bournemouth on 7th September 1943 at the age of sixty-five, was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1900 and was transferred to Membership in 1903.
