1850 Company established by W. Wilkins in London, presumably as Wilkins and Weatherley

1883 "NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, William Wilkins and Christopher Weatherly, carrying on business as Wire Rope Makers, at No. 39, Wapping, in the county of Middlesex, under the style or firm of Wilkins and Weatherly, has been dissolved, by mutual consent, as from the 31 st day of October, 1883; and notice is hereby further given, that the said business will in future be carried on by the said William Wilkins, under the style of Wilkins and Co. All debts due to and owing by the said late firm will be received and paid by the said new firm

By 1891 William Wilkins had retired from the business; his son, Gastrill, was recorded as an employer, Wire rope manufacturer, and thus had probably taken over the business

1895 "In the Matter of a Deed of Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors, dated the 29th day of November, 1894 executed by Gastrill Wilkins and Samuel Berber Hudston, trading as Wilkins and Coy., of 17, High street, Wapping, in the county of Middlesex, Wire Rope Manufacturers.

THE creditors of the above-named Gastrill Wilkins and Samuel Herbert Hudston, trading as Wilkins and Coy., who have not already sent in their claims, are required to do so on or before the 1st day of March, 1895, to Messrs. Pratt and Norton, Chartered Accountnts, 9, Old Jewry-chambers, in the city of London, or by default thereof they will be excluded from the benefit of the First and Final Dividend proposed to be declared."

1904 Wilkins Wire Rope Co was incorporated as a limited company.

1905 Moved factory to Eastwood, a factory specially built and equipped with new machinery

1914 Wire rope manufacturers. Specialities: high-class mining and engineering ropes. S. H. Hudston was Managing Director.

By 1922 was named Wilkins Wire and Wire Ropes Ltd
