William Beckett Johnson

W B Johnson was a prolific patentee.
Died 29th July 1902
1847 Patent: 'William Beckett Johnson, of Manchester, engineer, for certain improvements in the construction of locomotive engines to be used upon rail or other ways, which improvements are also applicable to carriages used upon railways. Sealed 12th June.' [1]
1853 Patented a compound steam engine and a governor. Described and illustrated in The Practical Mechanic's Journal[2]
Patent sealed, Dated June 13, 1855: 'William B. Johnson, manager for R. Ormrod and Son, Manchester, for improvements in steam boilers and safety valves.'[3]
1858 Patent sealed: 'William Beckett Johnson, manager for Messrs. Ormerod and Son, of Manchester, engineers, for improvements in raising and lowering trucks, carriages, engines, or other such railway appendages; dated September 24, 1857.' [4] Patent sealed: William Beckett Johnson, manager for Messrs. Ormerod and Son, of Manchester, engineer, for improvements in the employment of gas for generating steam, and in engines connected therewith ; dated December 24, 1858.'[5]
1860 Patent to William Beckett Johnson, Manager for Messrs. Richard Ormerod and Son, of Manchester, Engineers, in respect of the invention of "improvements in steam engines and boilers, and apparatus connected therewith."[6]
1902 Mr. William Beckett Johnson, Timperley, engineer, who died on the 29th July last, left estate valued £21,078 gross, including personalty valued £19,456.'[7]
