WILLIAM BUCHANAN, born at Dumbarton, Scotland, on the 6th March, 1830, died at South Norwalk, Connecticut, on the 20th January, 1910.
Entering the railway service in the United States in 1847, he rose through various grades on several railways now comprised in the New York Central and Hudson River system, until his retirement in 1899, when he occupied the position of General Superintendent of Motive Power and Equipment to that company.
Mr. Buchanan was elected a Member of The Institution on the 13th January, 1891.
