William Crabtree (1610-1644)
William Crabtree was an astronomer, mathematician, and merchant from Broughton Spout, near the area now known as "The Priory" in Broughton, Salford, Lancashire. Crabtree and his friend Jeremiah Horrocks (1619-1641) were the only people to observe and record the first predicted transit of Venus in 1639.
