"WILLIAM HUTCHESON PARK, whose death in his fifty-first year occurred on 21st April 1948, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1933. He was educated at the Royal Technical College, Glasgow, where he obtained his Higher National Certificate, and in 1912 began to serve an apprenticeship with the [[Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Co|Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Ltd]]., at Govan, which was, however, interrupted by a period of service with the infantry in France. After gaining experience in the drawing office of the [[Mirrlees, Watson Co|Mirrlees, Watson Company, Ltd]]., he joined the staff of [[G. and J. Weir|Messrs. G. and J. Weir, Ltd]]., and rose to be designer, being successively in charge of the condenser and pump departments. He resigned this post in 1936 and went to Reading to become chief draughtsman to the [[Pulsometer Engineering Co|Pulsometer Engineering Company, Ltd]]., with whom he remained until, in 1939, he took up his final appointment with [[Shell Mex|Messrs. Shell-Mex Refineries, Ltd]]., as chief draughtsman, first at Heysham, and later at Ince Hall.

On the conclusion of hostilities Mr. Park was transferred to the engineering side of the business, where he dealt with the various pumping problems arising from new undertakings as well as from existing refineries. In this connection his expert knowledge and wide experience were of very considerable value to the firm."
