c.1824 Born in Glasgow, presumably son of William and Jane Reid.

1851 William Reed 53, Engineer, lived in Tottenham Court Road, with Jane Reed 48, Jane H Reed 28, William Reed 26, Helen W Reed 23, Robert N Reed 21, Mary A Reed 19, James Reed 17, Matilda Reed 15, Hannah Reed 12[1]

1861 William Reid, 37, contractor, lived at 25 University St, London, with Emma Reid 25, his brother Robert N Reid 27, contractor, William G Reid 3, and his brother James Reid 25, contractor[2]

c.1864 Birth of son Edwin J. Reid

1868 A William Reid, age 43, died in Pancras in 1868[3]. In the 1871 census his wife Emma was recorded as a widow[4].
