WILLIAM WAKEFIELD served an apprenticeship for seven years in the works of the Great Southern and Western Railway of Ireland, in very early days.
He then became principal draughtsman in the locomotive department of the Midland Great Western Railway at Dublin, and three-and-a-half years later was appointed assistant locomotive superintendent of the Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway.
He was later locomotive superintendent of the Waterford, Dungarvon and Lismore Railway for two years, until in 1880 he succeeded his father as Locomotive Superintendent of the Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway.
He died on 7th September 1927 in his ninetieth year.
Mr. Wakefield became a Member of the Institution in 1882.
