1807 Born in Birmingham, son of Isaac and Jane Westley

1809 Baptised in Birmingham[1]

Started to work for Philip Carpenter.

c1827 The business was moved to London where William Westley rejoined his employer, first as foreman, then as partner.

By 1851 was a partner in Carpenter and Westley

1851 Mary Carpenter 63, unmarried, master optician, lived in St James Square, with her sister Sarah Carpenter 61, lodgers Wm Westley 44, master optician, James Westley 30, optician's assistent, Frederick T Westley 16, optician's apprentice, Thos Thomley 69, Geo Wm Pertey C B 62, Chas Fitz Gerald 64[2]

1871 Mary Carpenter 83, optician, lived in St James Square, London, with William Westley 64, master optician, co-partner, her nephews Westley Horton 24, optician's assistant, George Horton 20, optician's assistant[3]

1881 William Westley 74, optician, lived in Westminster, with his niece Phoebe H. Westley 34, his nephews George Horton 30, optician's assistant, Eric M. Stokes 25, optician's assistant, his brother John Westley 63, upholsterer, Mary J. Westley 38[4]

1887 Died in Westminster[5]. Buried in Highgate Cemetery.
