WILLIAM WILKIE MELVILLE was born in Dundee on 20th November 1857.

He served his apprenticeship with Robertson and Orchar, general engineers, Dundee, working seven years in the workshops and two years in the drawing office.

He then entered the drawing office of Messrs. Manlove, Alliott and Co., Nottingham, with whom he remained seven years, after which he worked for some time with Messrs. Fawcett, Preston and Co.

Subsequently he was employed for some time at Hadfield's Steel Foundry, Sheffield, and with Caddy and Co., Nottingham, whence he came to London in 1899 as representative for Messrs. E. Green and Son, of Wakefield.

This position he held until his death which took place in London on 25th June 1923, in his sixty-sixth year.
