Withy, Alexander and Company, were shipbuilders at Middleton Yard, Hartlepool

1869 Withy and Alexander went into partnership, taking over a shipyard that had belonged to Denton, Gray and Co and prior to that was the yard of Luke and George Blumer.

Their first ship was the Maria Ysabel, launched in May 1869.

1873 Edward Alexander left the business; Withy took charge.

1874 The company name was changed to E. Withy and Co.
