1784. British patent no 1476 for an engine. This was a simple reaction turbine with two radial arms rotating on a spindle emerging from the top of a boiler.[1]

1769 The Chess Automaton was the invention of Wolfgang de Kempelen, a native of Hungary, Aulic councillor to the royal chamber of the domains of the Emperor of Germany, and celebrated for his skill in mechanics.
