1993 ICI separated its pharmaceutical and bioscience divisions from the rest of the group. The pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, specialities, seeds and biological products were grouped in a new company called Zeneca.
1993 The Zeneca Division of ICI would increase production of Quorn; the company decided to instal a second fermenter at Cleveland[1]
1999 Zeneca merged with Astra AB to form AstraZeneca, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. The company divested its remaining interests in fine chemicals, selling the Grangemouth and Huddersfield plants (which were now producing mainly agrochemicals). The Blackley site was abandoned after over 130 years association with dyestuffs.
2000 Zeneca Agrochemicals was merged with the Novartis Agribusiness as Syngenta.
