1914 London-Manchester-London Air Race
Held on the 20th June 1914 the race was from Hendon to Manchester and back. The competitors had to land at a control pint at Birmingham on both legs.
The eight competitors were:
- William Birchenough - Maurice Farman pusher biplane with 70 hp Renault engine.
- John Alcock - Maurice Farman pusher biplane with 100 hp Sunbeam engine. 3rd place
- Lewis Arbon Strange - Bleriot monoplane with 80 hp Gnome engine
- Louis Noel - Morane-Saulnier monoplane with 80 hp Gnome engine
- Walter Laurence Brock - Morane-Saulnier monoplane with 80 hp Gnome engine. 1st place
- Reginald Hugh Carr - Morane-Saulnier monoplane with 80 hp Gnome engine. 2nd place
- John Carbery - Bristol Scout plane with 80 hp Le Rhone engine
- Harry Hawker - Sopwith Tabloid with 100 hp Gnome engine
