A. P. Longmore, HNC (Mech), studied mechanical engineering at Coventry Municipal Technical College and served an engineering apprenticeship with the Daimler Co Ltd. He travelled in Europe, South Africa and South America on process plant installation and commissioning for Humphreys & Glasgow Ltd and the APV Co Ltd.

His interest in industrial applications of vacuum equipment started in 1958 when he was employed as Sales Engineer for the Mirrlees Watson Co Ltd. He joined F. J. Stokes Ltd, UK subsidiary of the Philadelphia-based Corporation of that name in 1962, to manage the pioneer marketing of their high vacuum pump and process equipment in Europe and is responsible for its present established position on the Continent. He now works at Pennwalt Ltd (successor to F. J. Stokes Ltd) as Product Manager - Vacuum Process Systems with special responsibility for development of new products and markets.
