A. and J. Dawson
St. Magdalene Distillery, Linlithgow
1894 A. and J. Dawson Limited was registered, with capital of £70,000, to carry on the business of distillers, maltsters, brewers, merchants, bonded and free warehouse keepers, yeast makers, and vatters, blenders in spirits, and all other business connected therewith; to purchase and acquire the goodwill, and the whole real or heritable or personal property, estate, and effects and assets, or any part thereof, belonging to the firm of A. & J. Dawson in their business as distillers, maltsters, brewers, merchants, and dealers.[1]
1912 The company was in liquidation when its assets were acquired by the Distillers Co, the Glasgow blending house of W. P. Lowrie and Co Limited, and John Walker and Sons Limited of Kilmarnock, whisky blenders and distributors. The intention was to keep the distillery working by those three concerns in combination.[2]
A new private company of the same name was registered, with capital of £60,000.[3]
1914 The company merged with four other Lowland malt whisky distillers to form a new company, Scottish Malt Distillers Limited. The other parties to the merger were The Clydesdale Distillery Company Limited, Wishaw; Glenkinchie Distillery, The Rosebank Distillery Limited, Falkirk, and William Young and Co, Burntisland.
