Alexander Gordon (of USA)

Born in Dublin, 16 December 1840. Educated in Aberdeen. Emigrated to USA in 1848. His mother died in New York state in 1849, and his father and children returned to the UK in 1850. Alexander returned to the United States in 1859, and learned the trade of machinist and mechanical engineer. He worked on the construction of monitors for the government from 1862 to 1866, then joined the Niles Tool Works Co. 'Colonel' Gordon became the company's president. [1]

'Colonel' Alexander Gordon died on 11 September 1910 at 'Woodfield', Lytton Grove, Putney, the residence of his son.[2]

He was interred at Putney Vale Cemetery on 15th September 1910.[3]

In a patent of 1887, Alexander Gordon describes himself as a resident of Hamilton, Ohio, and a British subject.[4]
