ALEXANDER ROBB had been for over forty years proprietor of the Globe Boiler and Ship Repairing Company, Hull.
He was born in Leith, and in 1872 commenced an apprenticeship with Messrs. Hawthorn and Company, engineers and shipbuilders, of Leith, which terminated in 1879, after which he spent two years in Hull with various shipbuilding firms.
From 1881 to 1887 he was employed at Sunderland, first by Messrs. W. Doxford and Sons and later by the North Eastern Marine Engineering Company.
He then returned to Hull and worked with Messrs. Priestman Brothers and Messrs. Cook, Welton and Gemmell until 1890.
During the following two years Mr. Robb was employed by various shipbuilding firms in Grimsby and Cardiff.
In 1892 he commenced his association with the Globe Ironworks, Hull, as manager. At a later date the title of the firm was changed to that given above.
Mr. Robb had been a Member of the Institution since 1903.
His death occurred on 4th April 1933, in his seventy-fifth year.
