Andrew Lawrence Riker was, throughout his career, associated with the design and development of electric road vehicles in the U.S.A., and in 1887 formed the Riker Electric Motor Co, of which he became President.

He was subsequently associated with the Locomobile Company of America as its Vice-President and Chief Engineer, and held this position until his death, which took place in 1930.

He was elected a Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1916.
